Michael Mangum

Michael Mangum brings more than 35 years of experience in the construction industry to his work with FMI’s Leadership & Organizational Development practice. He is committed to guiding organizations and their leaders through transformational change, especially the challenges of management succession and business continuity.
He is deeply involved in corporate governance, organizing and launching three independent boards of directors, and speaking at National Association of Corporate Director events. Michael is past chairman of the National Asphalt Pavement Association and led its health and safety initiative for more than a decade. During those years, he developed close working relationships with members of organized labor, regulatory agencies and academia in the U.S. and Europe.
Michael is a lifelong member of the construction industry, working as a teenager and college student for his family’s construction business in Raleigh, NC. He continued this industry involvement after graduation, assuming various leadership roles including president and CEO for multiple organizations. He has lectured in the graduate schools at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and Northwestern University and is a 25-year member of the Young Presidents Organization. The Engineering News-Record named him one of its 21st-century leaders of the transportation industry.
