James Munson
Consultant
James Munson is a consultant in FMI's strategy practice, where he draws on a background in geotechnical engineering to advise heavy civil contractors on the strategic and operational challenges specific to their work, with a focus on geotechnical construction. His engineering training and experience working adjacent to the construction industry give him firsthand insight into project risk and execution challenges, uniquely qualifying him to advise contractors with complex operations. James’ background allows him to speak the technical language of his clients while framing decisions in terms of business strategy, bridging the gap between field-level engineering realities and boardroom decision-making. James specializes in quantitative analysis of client project data, helping clients turn raw performance data into actionable strategy that supports growth and operational improvement.
Prior to joining FMI, James spent nearly a decade working for large, multinational engineering firms. His experience includes designing foundations for the California High Speed Rail and coastal rehabilitation and flood protection projects sponsored by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. He has also worked on foundation design and rehabilitation for new and existing earthen dams, along with other foundation applications in the heavy civil industry. His experience spans projects across the United States, the Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific Islands. James draws on this diverse project background to bring a more complete, technically grounded perspective to the analysis and decision-making he provides clients today.
