Fourth quarter CIRT Sentiment Index results point to a stable near-term outlook, with designers suggesting improving industry conditions into 2026. The index remains stable at 64.6 compared with 65.0 last quarter, while the Design Index improved to 68.4 versus the previous 58.5. Participating members continue to report healthy pipelines and easing cost pressures. In aggregate, industry conditions support ongoing disciplined growth and continued selectivity in project pursuits.

This quarter we asked CIRT members about emerging technology adoption as well as strategic growth initiatives for 2026.

Key findings include:

  • Since 2023, the share of respondents currently using artificial intelligence and/or machine learning in their operations has nearly doubled to 83% from 44%.
  • CIRT members report that 2026 growth strategies will be led largely by organic and internal restructuring initiatives.
  • Views on the outlook for the U.S. economy and local markets receded slightly from last quarter. The index for the overall economy fell to 47.0 from 49.0, and the economy where members operate also declined to 57.0 from 58.7.
